Day in the Life

President's Day. No school, no work (for me and the girl, sorry hubs!). This seemed to me the perfect opportunity to document a day in our life. Why? I saw this quote and it struck me in a profound way:

“Today is your big moment. Moments, really. The life you've been waiting for is happening all around you. The scene unfolding right outside your window is worth more than the most beautiful painting, and the crackers and peanut butter that you're having for lunch on the coffee table are as profound, in their own way, as the Last Supper. This is it. This is life in all its glory, swirling and unfolding around us, disguised as pedantic, pedestrian non-events. But pull off the mask and you will find your life, waiting to be made, chosen, woven, crafted."

As a mother and a photographer, I am keenly aware of moments. How important it is to capture them before they pass away. My daughter is growing up so fast and I don't want to miss a single one. I want to preserve them - they way the sunlight catches her hair, the way she goes up on her tippy-toes to reach things, the way she laughs out loud all toothy and unabashed. I want to remember our pedestrian life in all its glory - unposed and unplanned. Just us in the real, in-between moments that make up our life.

Heading to a dentist appointment. She almost always brings a possession of hers along for a car ride. Today it was a Dr. Seuss book. She is HUGE into reading right now.

Getting her teeth cleaned

Dentist said she looks great NO CAVITIES!

They suggested sealants on her molars to keep them cavity-free. We decided to go ahead and get them done.

Next up we took my car to the car wash. Her favorite thing about this place is pushing the "Extra Soap" button.

Quick stop at Dunkin Donuts for second breakfast. Why not reward those cavity-free teeth and overall dental bravery with some sugar!?! Mom of the year, I know.

Fun fact: She eats her donuts in a circle.

 

Time for our bi-weekly pilgrimage to Target.

She likes to help by making shopping lists and checking off each item as we get it.

Jewelry: check.
She's been insisting that we get best friend charms ever since she saw two twins on the playground wearing some.

Dr. Seuss books for $5??? Yes, please!

I almost always have a lollypop in my bag for when she needs a pick-me-up. This one came from her Valentine's stash.

She chose the Be Fri for herself and gave the St Ends to me. Her pure love for me makes my heart swell. I start to tear up just thinking about it...

 Finally back home. Time to unload and make lunch.

Time to finish off the day with one of our favorite mommy-daughter pastimes - watching Xena: The Warrior Princess. Yes, I have all the box sets on DVD. Judge away.
